2012 marks the fourth year Subaru is hosting its popular "Share the Love" event in which they donate funds to buyers' and leasees' choice of five charities over a specific period of time. It also marks the second year in a row that the Japanese automotive company has invited Facebook fans to nominate two of the five charities.

After tallying upwards of 200,000 online votes submitted over just three weeks, Subaru has added the final two charities to consumers' list of options for 2012. Joining the ASPCA (advocates against animal cruelty), Make-A-Wish (supports children with life-threatening medical conditions) and Meals On Wheels Association of America (rallies against senior hunger) are the Alzheimer's Association (supports Alzheimer's care and support) and the USO (supports troops their families, fallen soldiers' families and the wounded as well as their respective families and caregivers).

So, how exactly does the 2012 "Share the Love" event work?

From November 21, 2012 to January 2, 2013, Subaru will invite every new BRZ, Impreza, Impreza WRX, Legacy, Forester, XV Crosstrek, Outback and Tribeca buyer and leasee to select one of the five charities listed above. The philanthropic automaker will then donate $250 to that cause.

This year alone, Subaru plans to invest $5 million across the ASPCA, Make-a-Wish, Meals on Wheels Association of America, Alzheimers Accociation and USO.  Since 2008, it's donated just under $20 million to charities participating in the "Share the Love" event.
