Many of our Fred Beans Subaru readers known that Subaru is praised for its dedication to protecting the environment with its factories (such as the Indiana "zero landfill" plant), programs (such as the Share the Love Garden), and Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) including the Outback, Forrester, and Legacy, which have been available since 2003. What you might not know is that Subaru is also dedicated to American communities.  With its SOA (Subaru of America) Foundation, the company has awarded over six million dollars to scholarships, grants, and to match employee gifts since 1984. Most of these were focused towards children or children's groups, but several other types of groups and individuals have been helped as well.

Some of the groups awarded for the 2012 year through the SOA include: the Children's Literacy Initiative of Philadelphia, the City Kids Wilderness Project of Washington D.C., which provides activities for at-risk children, the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, which sponsors an art and essay contest dealing with the environment to fifth grade students, and Planet Lunchroom Inc. in Los Angeles, which provides environmental education and "greening" of lunchrooms at low-income schools in Southern L.A. And, these are only a few of the many programs sponsored!  Subaru also sponsors a scholarship program for the children of Subaru employees, which has donated more than $528k since 1996, as well as a program that matches employee contributions to 501 organizations up to $2,000 per year (excluding religious, political, and fraternal organizations).

Subaru certainly is dedicated to providing aid to our children and communities. Would you like to become a part of the auto community that cares by purchasing or leasing a new Subaru? If so, stop by Fred Beans Subaru, located at 830 N. Easton Road in Doylestown, PA, today and take a test drive.
