The last time that we here at Fred Beans Subaru were telling you fine folks about the 2014 Subaru Forester, it hadn't even joined the ranks of our new and used cars. Strange considering how fond of it we are and that it's also the most award-winning small SUV in America. But now that it's been put through the ringer by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), we now have one more thing to love about it.
If you haven't heard of them before, the IIHS has the final say when it comes to setting the standards for vehicular safety with each new year. Each model-year vehicle that comes their way is put through a series of rigorous crash tests and is given a final evaluation based on their performance in each. The ones that perform best are given Top Safety Pick awards, but only an elite few manage to perform so well that they walk away with the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award.
But since this is the 2014 Subaru Forester we're talking about, we can't say we were all that surprised when it did just that. Needless to say, the brass at the IIHS were quite pleased with it as well.
"With the redesigned Forester, Subaru's engineers set out to do well in our new test, and they succeeded," says Joe Nolan, vice president for vehicle research at the IIHS. "This is exactly how we hoped manufacturers would respond to improve protection for people in these kinds of serious frontal crashes."1
So if all this praise has to you itching to take the 2014 Subaru Forester for spin, your test drive awaits you here in Doylestown, PA. There's no shortage of things to adore.
