2020 Outback vs 2020 Forester: Performance

The Outback and the Forester are very similar under the hood. Both offer standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as well as a Lineartronic® CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). This remarkable transmission comes equipped with Adaptive Control as well as a 7-speed manual mode on the Forester and an 8-speed manual mode with paddle shifters on the Outback.

Additionally, these models also come standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine. This class-exclusive powertrain lies flat in the vehicle to provide a lower sense of gravity and less drag. Plus, in both Subaru SUVs, you'll also have a standard horsepower of 182 and 176 lb-ft of torque. However, that's where the similarities end.

Depending on what kind of power you need, the Subaru Outback and the Forester have you covered. Although standardly they boast the same stats, the 2020 Outback also offers an upgraded 2.4L Turbocharged engine as well. This option is ideal if you're looking for a classic Subaru drive backed by some extra power.

This Outback powertrain revs up to a whopping 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. This strength jumps the standard 2,700-pound towing capacity to an impressive 3,500 pounds. On the other hand, the Forester towing capability of 1,500 pounds across all trims is great for light-duty hauling.

While they offer very similar features and provide a great drive, if having extra power and capability is where your interest lies, the 2020 Outback may be the right choice for you.

Subaru Outback vs Subaru Forester: Interior Space

Although the Outback may come out on top in terms of power, the Forester's interior presents a larger space for you and your passengers. If having extra space is important for your commutes, the Forester may be the solution.

For the 2020 Forester dimensions, you'll have 111.9 cubic feet of passenger volume with the ability to seat up to five. In the front, headroom comes in at 41.2 inches and legroom at 43.3 inches, which is ideal for stretching out. Passengers in the back will also find ample space with 39.6 inches of headroom and 39.4 inches of legroom. Additionally, the cargo space can be configured to an impressive 76.1 cubic feet.

On the other hand, the 2020 Outback's interior dimensions are still quite roomy. It can also seat five in its 109 cubic feet of passenger volume and offers front-seat dimensions of 40.1 inches of headroom and 42.8 inches of legroom. The back seat also provides passengers with headroom of 39.1 inches and legroom of 39.5 inches. Additionally, there's 75.7 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Whether you're traveling with people, cargo, or a bit of both, you'll find the extra space you need in either of these Subaru SUV models.

Inside the 2020 Outback & Forester

Since both of these models are top-of-the-line Subaru SUVs, you'll find a lot of the same features within their cabins. This means that no matter which one you choose, you'll enjoy a fully equipped interior that you may want to find yourself in more often.

The Outback and the Forester both come standard with a 6-way manual driver's seat but can be upgraded to the available power-adjustable seat. This option gives you 10 ways to position your driver's seat as well as lumbar support and a 4-way adjustable front-passenger seat.

Inside, you'll also find more comfort with available additions, including heated seats for everyone on board, leather upholstery, and reclining 60/40-split flat-folding rear seats. No matter where they're seated, everyone will be cozy and happy for the ride ahead.

Outback vs Forester: Advanced Interior Technologies

The cabins of the 2020 Subaru Forester and the 2020 Outback don't end with comfort. Your commutes will be elevated with a suite of high-end technology to make your driving both more fun and more convenient.

In the Forester, you'll find the STARLINK® 6.5-inch Multimedia Plus system that gives you lots of features, such as smartphone integration, Bluetooth®, and much more. This feature can also be elevated to the available 8-inch touchscreen display that's also available with navigation.

For the Outback, a Dual 7-inch Multimedia system is standard and offers the same features as above. For a larger display, you can opt for the 11.6-inch touchscreen that adds on available navigation for a clear view of directions.

Both vehicles also offer a standard 4-speaker sound system or an available Harman Kardon® 576-watt premium audio system to take your playlists to new heights.

Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

To fully round out these two amazing SUVs, both are equipped with an advanced system of driving aids found with every trim of the 2020 Outback and the 2020 Forester. These technologies utilize high-end sensors, cameras, and radar to assist with driving applications and keep you safe on the road.

Included in this suite are:
