2019 Subaru Ascent vs Honda Pilot

On the hunt for a full-size SUV that offers more than just a spacious interior? The 2019 Subaru Ascent and 2019 Honda Pilot dooffer quite a bit of interior space, but they do much more than that. In this comparison, we at Fred Beans Subaru will introduce you to the many features and capabilities these two vehicles have to offer.

Drivers in Doylestown, Philadelphia, and Warminster should read ahead to discover whether the Ascent or the Pilot is a better fit for their needs!

Subaru vs Honda: Performance

The 2019 Subaru Ascent is powered by a 2.4L turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine that comes standardly paired with a Lineartronic® CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). This duo achieves an efficient EPA-estimated 21 city/27 highway MPG.1

The Ascent doesn't stop there. This model is also standardly equipped with a standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. Combining all of these impressive pieces of equipment results in a standard towing capability of 2,000 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.2

The 2019 Honda Pilot, on the other hand, is equipped with a non-turbocharged V6 engine and front-wheel drivetrain. This model, unfortunately, does not offer a CVT and, as a result, only achieves an EPA-estimated 19 city MPG. Additionally, you'll only be able to tow 1,500 pounds in this model.

Ascent vs Pilot: Interior

As full-size SUVs, the 2019 Subaru Ascent and the 2019 Honda Pilot offer expansive cargo and passenger space. Both models are standardly equipped with eight spacious seats and 153 total cubic feet of passenger space to share.

However, you'll find that the Ascent is a bit more strategic about maximizing wiggle room. This model sports 41.3/38.6 inches of front/rear legroom while the Pilot offers up 40.1/38.4 inches of front/rear legroom. Additionally, you'll get a bit more cargo space in the Ascent as well as shown below:

Ascent

Pilot

All Rear Seats in Place

17.8 cubic feet

16.5 cubic feet

Third Row Folded Down

47.5 cubic feet

46.8 cubic feet

Both Rear Rows Fold Down

86.5 cubic feet

83.9 cubic feet

No matter who or what you're packing in the Ascent, you'll have plenty of room for both passengers and cargo while you'll have to be choosey in the Pilot.

Compare Technology Packages

As 2019 models, the Subaru Ascent and the Honda Pilot are equipped with some of the most state-of-the-art technology features on the market. Both models offer top-notch infotainment systems with large 8-inch displays, Bluetooth® connectability, turn-by-turn navigation, convenient voice command recognition, and much more.

Both the Ascent and the Pilot also offer built-in Wi-Fi® connectability. However, the Ascent standardizes this feature in three out of its four trim levels. In this Pilot, you'll only have access to a Wi-Fi® hotspot in the top two out of five trim levels, so you'll have to upgrade drastically to take advantage of this feature.
